What are SAP Gloves?
SAP gloves are a type of self defense or law enforcement item that is made from a pair of leather hand gloves, with lead powder or steel shot. They are often used by those working on their fighting skills to add weight to their hands. In some states it is legal to use SAP gloves in self defense. Some law enforcement agencies use them to help absorb the blows they may receive from hard, blunt objects.
The protection of SAP gloves comes from the lead or steel in the fingers of the gloves. These protect the hand when throwing or warding off a punch. Some models come with an area on the palm that is reinforced as well, which protects the hand when using palm strikes.
