Types of Self Defense for Women

Self defense courses are becoming popular with women and children. Many of these courses are free or offered on a sliding scale basis. There are even some tailored courses designed for those who have survived domestic violence, sexual assault or child abuse.

For young teenage girls between eleven and thirteen courses typically focus on violence prevention strategies along with self defense techniques. Much of the training typically focuses on discussions, role playing and empowering while also providing a fun atmosphere.

For women there are classes that include simple and effective self defense techniques in addition to safety and prevention discussions. These courses typically work for women of all age no matter what ability level they have. Most of these classes are offered with a sliding fee scale.

A self defense course is an excellent way to learn how you can effectively respond to physical and non-physical harassment while helping to improve an individuals feeling of safety and confidence. In addition, women and children learn important skills for resolving conflicts and de-escalating violence. Self defense strategies learned are often both physical and verbal. Another benefit of these classes in the ability to learn what to do when a person has you on the ground, often a position that makes many individuals feel hopeless.
