Women who want to successfully learn martial arts and self defense techniques must make sure that they have the time and dedication it takes to get started and keep going with it. A few tips:

  • Repetitive training: Building up strength and technique is most important. Especially if you have not spent a lot of time on physical exercise previously, your body will have to get used to working again. Stick with it and keep going.
  • Women in martial arts need to dedicate a lot of time to meditation and mental training. If you know that you can beat an opponent, you have already won half the fight.
  • A good teacher: Shop around for places where you can be taught martial arts. There are classes for women only. Make sure that you feel comfortable and explain your reasons for wanting to learn the martial arts.

  • Sometimes women doing martial arts feel that the training sessions can be a bit rough. Find a course that focuses on women and the training sessions will be adapted to women and their physique.

  • Women martial artists are often considered to be coarse and unattractive. Of course, you don’t have to look attractive when engaging in sports. You are focusing on something completely different and your looks don’t contribute anything to the martial art that you are performing.

  • It takes a long time and a lot of dedication to learn the martial arts and getting to learn the basic moves can take years. The rewards are great though and you will feel better physically and mentally.
Martial arts for women are one of the best self defense techniques around. The effect of surprise when women in martial arts show their skills is often so impressive that possible attackers think twice before even trying to bother them.
