Pepper Spray
One of the most popular devices in self defense for women is pepper spray. These devices appeared in the market in the 1980's and, since then have become quite popular among women. The only thing that you need to do is to point it to the eyes of the attacker and activate the spray.

The attacker will be immobilized in no time. He will not be able to use his eyes, and the pain will restrain him from making any kind of attack. In this situation the best option is to search for help: a security agent or a co-worker that you can trust. Do not try to inflict any kind of damage to the attacker. Believe it or not, you may be sued because of it.
Stun Guns
Another interesting non-lethal weapon is the stun gun. They are very simple to use. The only thing that you need to do is to activate this hand device when it is touching the body of the attacker. A high voltage electric current will immobilize the muscles of his body, letting you free.

There are other variations of this weapon, for example, the stun baton. The good thing about these devices is that they aren't expensive. They usually cost between $40 and $50 and they can be found on the internet or at a local store. Word of advice, do not go for the cheap stuff, your personal security isn't worth it. Look for brands that have several years in the market and that have a strong reputation among vendors.

Finally, there is one thing that you should consider these electronic apparatus. Certain states have different regulations about them. This may sound unfair, but there is little or nothing that can be done about it.

As you may have noticed, women's self defense is more than an issue; it is a responsibility for any professional or working woman who wants to protect herself from an attack. If you find that your work place safety guidelines do not cover this issue properly, talk to your human resources department. They will be more than grateful for your feedback.
