Self defense whether it is through the use of self defense products, self defense weapons or self defense fighting cannot be quickly and easily defined with a simple solution.
In order to get a sense of control over your basic self defense techniques you need both knowledge and skill in several key component areas. You cannot have a complete and effective safety strategy without all of the following component areas. The first to consider is survival psychology.

Survival Psychology
Everyone has a natural desire to want to be safe and secure or at least have the feeling of security and safety. Self defense instruction provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain a sense of control that helps to provide a sense of safety and security. There are three main areas encompassed along with survival psychology. The first is the ability to know what fear is and how to manage it. The second is motivating yourself to become responsible for your own safety and security through self defense instruction. The third is know how self esteem can impact your emotional response, your crisis performance and victim selection. Consider victim selection in a bit more detail.
Understanding Victim Selection
A psychological study found that each individual has traits unique to them which determine who are selected as victims and who are passed over by criminals. For each person victimized there are likely many other who have been passed over by criminals. Once you know the criteria of a desirable target to criminals you can have some influence over the selection process by criminals. Criminals rarely confront those who have self defense instruction. After gaining a knowledge of even basic self defense skills an individual begins to project unconscious signals that a criminal can recognize and they will view you as a difficult target and look elsewhere for a victim. The next area you need to look at for the components of self defense is how to recognize predatory behavior.
Recognizing Predatory Behavior
While you can't determine a predator based solely on physical characteristics since they often look like everyone else, there are some behavior characteristics that you can be aware of. Free self defense tips will help you to determine which individuals are likely to be predators. They may be emotionally unstable and prone to violent outbursts. Rather than relying on self defense products to fight back in an attack it is much better to learn the warning signs and avoid an attack all together. The next component you should consider is the response option theory.
